Burāq, in Islamic tradition, a
creature said to have transported the Prophet Mohammad to Jerusalem and heaven,
and back – all while he and his child bride, Aisha, were sound asleep in their
bed. Buraq is described as “a white animal,
half-mule, half-donkey, with wings on its sides . . . ,” As fantastical as
Solomon’s flying carpet that carried his whole kingdom, and the talking ant,
and many other tales.
